The Ballad of the Mountain,
high above the plains
The cool, crisp air, the whippoorwill,
his song, a sweet refrain
I bask upon the beauty
of the Basin far below
The tall, green grass, I pause afresh
and hum along to the silent lull
The eagle far above me
as king above the earth
He soars far and wide, his mate beside,
returns to the place of his birth
So simple yet so hardened
the way of the mountain life
Weather extremes, clear flowing streams
Stark contrast of bliss and strife
This Ballad of the Mountain
calls me home once more
To bathe afresh in the Lord’s Own Breath
My soul is blissfully restored
